  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to minors; expanding the circumstances under 
  1.3             which minors can consent to mental health services; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 144.343, 
  1.5             subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 144.343, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [MINOR'S CONSENT VALID.] Any minor may give 
  1.10  effective consent for medical, mental and other health services 
  1.11  to determine the presence of or to treat pregnancy and 
  1.12  conditions associated therewith, venereal disease, alcohol and 
  1.13  other drug abuse, and the consent of no other person is required.
  1.14  Minors may also give effective consent for mental health and 
  1.15  advocacy services related to incidents of family violence, 
  1.16  without the consent of other persons.
