  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the legislature; requiring a study of the 
  1.3             timing, length, schedule, and calendar of legislative 
  1.4             sessions. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [STUDY.] 
  1.7      The legislative coordinating commission shall consider any 
  1.8   changes that could be made in timing, length, schedule, and 
  1.9   calendar of regular legislative sessions to maximize the 
  1.10  efficiency and effectiveness of legislative operations.  The 
  1.11  commission shall make periodic progress reports to the speaker 
  1.12  of the house, the president of the senate, and the chairs of the 
  1.13  house committee on rules and legislative administration and the 
  1.14  senate committee on rules and administration.  The commission 
  1.15  shall make a final report by February 15, 1996.  The report must 
  1.16  include any recommendations for proposed constitutional 
  1.17  amendments or changes in statute needed to implement the 
  1.18  commission's recommendations. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1995.
