  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; authorizing use of 
  1.3             wheelchair-accessible vehicles in taxicab service in 
  1.4             the metropolitan area; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 221. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [221.015] [PASSENGER SERVICE FOR PEOPLE WITH 
  1.8   DISABILITIES.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [SMALL WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE PASSENGER 
  1.10  VEHICLE.] In this section, "small wheelchair-accessible 
  1.11  passenger vehicle" means a vehicle designed to transport no more 
  1.12  than 15 persons, including the driver, that is equipped with a 
  1.13  wheelchair lift and at least three wheelchair securement 
  1.14  positions. 
  1.15     Subd. 2.  [USE OF CERTAIN VEHICLES.] Notwithstanding the 
  1.16  definitions of "motor carrier of passengers" and "small vehicle 
  1.17  passenger service" in section 221.011, persons engaged in the 
  1.18  for-hire transportation of passengers may use small 
  1.19  wheelchair-accessible passenger vehicles in the for-hire 
  1.20  transportation of passengers with disabilities, and this use 
  1.21  qualifies as small vehicle passenger service in the metropolitan 
  1.22  area defined in section 473.121, subdivision 2. 
  1.23     Subd. 3.  [APPLICATION.] This section applies in the 
  1.24  counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and 
  1.25  Washington.
