  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to human rights; protecting independent 
  1.3             contractors from unfair discriminatory actions in 
  1.4             employment; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.5             363.01, subdivision 16. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 363.01, 
  1.8   subdivision 16, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 16.  [EMPLOYEE.] "Employee" means an individual who 
  1.10  is employed by an employer and who resides or works in this 
  1.11  state.  Employee includes a commission salesperson, as defined 
  1.12  in section 181.145, who resides or works in this 
  1.13  state.  Employee also includes an independent contractor who 
  1.14  resides or works in this state.
