appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

for the Teacher's Forum:

new text begin (b) Of this amount, $60,000 in fiscal year 2020 and $80,000 in fiscal year 2021 are for
scholarships to teacher candidates enrolled in a teacher preparation program at a
postsecondary institution listed in paragraph (c).

new text begin (c) The African American Registry must use the grant funds to improve the cultural
competency of candidates for teacher licensure through relationships with Concordia
University, St. Paul; Minnesota State University Mankato; Metropolitan State University;
and the University of St. Thomas. The African American Registry must provide the four
postsecondary institutions access to Lakota, Ojibwe, and Dakota language translation
resources and must use reading maturity metrics for website translations. By January 15,
2020, and January 15, 2021, the African American Registry must submit to the chairs and
ranking minority members of the legislative committees having jurisdiction over education
finance a detailed report regarding the grant funds used. The report must include the number
of teacher candidates prepared.
