A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution,
article VII, section 6; proposing lowering the age of
eligibility to hold office.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to
the people. If the amendment is adopted, article VII, section
6, will read:

Sec. 6.

Every person who by the provisions of this article
is entitled to vote at any election deleted text begin and is 21 years of age deleted text end is
eligible for any office elective by the people in the district
wherein deleted text begin he deleted text end new text begin that person new text end has resided 30 days previous to the
election, except as otherwise provided in this constitution, or
the constitution and law of the United States.

Sec. 2. new text begin BALLOT QUESTION; SCHEDULE.

new text begin The proposed amendment shall be submitted to the people at
the 2006 general election. The question submitted shall be:

new text begin "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to reduce the
age of eligibility for holding office from 21 to 18 years of age?
