1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Ken Brittain for being named Cottage Grove Volunteer of the Year.
1.3WHEREAS, civic engagement and community service provide the bedrock for Minnesota's
1.4towns and cities; and
1.5WHEREAS, Ken Brittain became a resident of Cottage Grove in 1995, after moving from
1.6Florida for a job at 3M, and raised his son Justin in the community as a single parent; and
1.7WHEREAS, as his son got older, Ken wanted to give back to the community; and
1.8WHEREAS, Ken has served on nine different city commissions and task forces over the
1.9past 16 years, including the East Ravine Master Plan, 2030 Comprehensive Plan, and Infrastructure
1.10Maintenance Plan task forces, and is currently chair of the Cottage Grove Planning Commission;
1.11and
1.12WHEREAS, Ken has also volunteered as an assistant coach for youth baseball and hockey
1.13and as a Cub Scout leader; and
1.14WHEREAS, at the city's annual banquet on April 9, 2019, Ken was named Cottage Grove
1.15Volunteer of the Year; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17recognizes Ken Brittain for his years of service to his city and congratulates him on this honor.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Ken Brittain.
