1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Big Lake High School on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
1.3WHEREAS, our state is enhanced by the presence of those schools that have stood the test
1.4of time, and reaching 100 years of educating students is a significant milestone in the history of a
1.5school; and
1.6WHEREAS, Big Lake High School will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2017 and has a
1.7long, rich history of helping students achieve their full potential as part of the Big Lake Public
1.8School District, which was established in 1900; and
1.9WHEREAS, a century after its founding, Big Lake High School currently serves over 900
1.10students and employs high-quality educators who utilize cutting-edge teaching philosophies and
1.11individualized learning strategies to help their students prepare for college and future careers; and
1.12WHEREAS, Big Lake High School boasts a 97 percent graduation rate, offers over 150
1.13different courses, and has the highest ratio in the state of national board certified teachers to students;
1.14and
1.15WHEREAS, many events are being held to commemorate the school's 100th anniversary.
1.16During homecoming week, festivities included a community color run, an alumni football game,
1.17a pre-game community celebration, and the display of several banners that promote the "Hornet
1.18Way" philosophy by conveying the school's core values of respect, honesty, kindness, responsibility,
1.19and fairness. The choir will mark this important milestone by working with a local composer to
1.20commission a piece of music that will debut at the commencement of the school's 100th graduating
1.21class; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23congratulates Big Lake High School on its 100th anniversary and extends best wishes to its students,
1.24faculty, and staff for the future.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Big Lake High School.
