1.1A Senate resolution 1.2honoring Andrew Bundermann on being awarded the Distinguished Service 1.3Cross. 1.4WHEREAS, those who risk their lives and give selflessly of their time and energy to defend 1.5our nation's precious freedoms in the armed forces perform an important service deservingof special 1.6legislative recognition; and 1.7WHEREAS, Andrew Bundermann, originally from Bovey, Minnesota, and currently a 1.8resident of Ham Lake, volunteered to take up arms in defense of his country; and 1.9WHEREAS, Bundermann was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army after 1.10graduating from the University of Minnesota where he was a cadet in the Reserve OfficerTraining 1.11Corps; and 1.12WHEREAS, during his deployment to Afghanistan on October 3, 2009, then-First Lieutenant 1.13Bundermann led the defense of Combat Outpost Keating against attacking Taliban forces;and 1.14WHEREAS, even in the heat of battle, First Lieutenant Bundermann was able to donate a 1.15unit of blood to a wounded soldier; and 1.16WHEREAS, in the words of his former commander, First Lieutenant Bundermann displayed 1.17"tactical genius and amazing heroism"; and 1.18WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Cross, awarded for extraordinary heroism, is the 1.19second-highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United StatesArmy; 1.20and 1.21WHEREAS, Bundermann was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross on March 7, 2019; 1.22and 1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 1.24honors and commends Andrew Bundermann for his extraordinary heroism in service toour nation. 1.25BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 1.26enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signatureand that of the 1.27Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Andrew Bundermann.
