1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Makenna Deering as a 2021 Athena Award recipient.
1.3WHEREAS, athletic and academic accomplishments are worthy of legislative recognition;
1.4and
1.5WHEREAS, the Athena Award is annually awarded to outstanding female high school
1.6student-athletes in recognition of their achievements in academics and athletics; and
1.7WHEREAS, Makenna Deering is a senior at South St. Paul Secondary School, where she
1.8maintains an excellent academic record in addition to her extracurricular and athletic pursuits; and
1.9WHEREAS, Makenna has earned 15 varsity letters across soccer, hockey, student council,
1.10and track and field; and
1.11WHEREAS, as a participant in soccer, Makenna was named All-Conference honorable
1.12mention in eighth grade, received All-Conference awards four times, served as the team captain,
1.13and was selected to play on the All-State soccer team; and
1.14WHEREAS, as a participant in hockey, Makenna was named All-Conference honorable
1.15mention in eighth grade, received All-Conference awards three times, served as the team captain,
1.16and was selected to play on the All-State team twice; and
1.17WHEREAS, Makenna has demonstrated her leadership skills on the student council, where
1.18she lettered three times; and
1.19WHEREAS, Makenna will be honored at the St. Paul Athena Award luncheon on April 21,
1.202021; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22congratulates Makenna Deering on receiving the 2021 Athena Award and extends her best wishes
1.23for the future.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Makenna Deering.
