1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Carmela Simione for receiving a National Silver Key Award.
1.3WHEREAS, more than 300,000 students from across the United States enter the Scholastic
1.4Arts and Writing Awards contest each year, and about 68,000 students win regional and state
1.5awards; and
1.6WHEREAS, students at the Perpich Center for Arts Education won a record seven national
1.7awards this year, along with 118 statewide awards, despite being a small school with only two
1.8grades competing against schools with grades nine through 12; and
1.9WHEREAS, Carmela Simione from northeast Minneapolis, a junior in media arts at
1.10Perpich, achieved national recognition in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, receiving a
1.11National Silver Key Award for her work; in addition, in the Minnesota competition, Carmela won
1.12a Gold Key Award and an honorable mention; and
1.13NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.14it congratulates Carmela Simione for receiving a National Silver Key Award, and extends best
1.15wishes to her for the future.
1.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.17an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.18the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Sue Mackert,
1.19executive director of the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
