1.2honoring Betsy MacDonald for receiving the D2 Women's Basketball HERO
1.3of the Week award.
1.4WHEREAS, the HERO of the Week award is given to student athletes who exhibit the best
1.5individual performance of the week in each division of several NCAA sports; and
1.6WHEREAS, Betsy MacDonald is a senior at St. Cloud State University, where she is a
1.7valuable member of the St. Cloud State Huskies Women's Basketball team; and
1.8WHEREAS, during a historic game against Bemidji State on December 3, 2016, Betsy
1.9scored a career-high 42 points, including 15 field goals, a pair of three-pointers, and 10 out of 12
1.10free throws, ultimately leading her team to a 111-107 double overtime victory; and
1.11WHEREAS, her 42 points were the second-most points ever scored in a single game in the
1.12history of SCSU Women's Basketball, and her 15 field goals rank among the third most a player
1.13has ever scored; and
1.14WHEREAS, Betsy is a tremendous basketball player who ranks 15th nationally in scoring,
1.15and her average of 20.7 points per game makes her the only player in the NSIC who is scoring
1.16better than 18 points per game this season; and
1.17WHEREAS, Betsy is not only an outstanding athlete, but also a kind and well-respected
1.18individual on and off the court; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20congratulates Betsy MacDonald on being named the D2 Women's Basketball HERO of the Week,
1.21and extends best wishes to her for the future.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Betsy MacDonald.
