1.1A Senate resolution
1.2celebrating the Faribault Woolen Mill Company on its 154th birthday.
1.3WHEREAS, our state is enhanced by the presence of those organizations that have stood
1.4the test of time; and
1.5WHEREAS, founded in 1865 in Faribault, the year President Lincoln died and the Civil
1.6War ended, the Faribault Woolen Mill Company is a living testament to American craftsmanship;
1.7and
1.8WHEREAS, Faribault woolens are renowned for their comfort and quality. From providing
1.9woolen blankets for pioneers heading west to comforting our troops through two world wars,
1.10Faribault woolens are woven into American history; and
1.11WHEREAS, the Mill began with an incredible journey of hard work, perseverance, integrity,
1.12and innovation when Carl Klemer, a German immigrant, purchased a one-horse treadmill-powered
1.13carding machine on May 24, 1865, to card wool from local sheep to be used primarily as batting
1.14for quilts; and
1.15WHEREAS, 154 years later, on May 24, 2019, the company will celebrate the Klemers, the
1.16Johnsons, and the generations of families and employees that built a great company; and
1.17WHEREAS, on the shores of the Cannon River, where the Mill has stood since 1892, a new
1.18generation serves as stewards of this great past to continue the tradition of being purveyors of
1.19comfort and quality for at least another 154 years; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21congratulates the Faribault Woolen Mill Company on its 154th birthday and extends best wishes
1.22for the future.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Faribault Woolen
1.26Mill Company.
