1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Sheletta Brundidge for being named the Minnesota Woman of the Year
1.3by USA Today.
1.4WHEREAS, USA Today announced the publication's selections for Women of the Year, an
1.5award that recognizes one outstanding woman from each state; and
1.6WHEREAS, USA Today launched the Women of the Year award in 2021 to honor exceptional
1.7women who work to make their communities better; and
1.8WHEREAS, based on her outstanding contributions to her community, Sheletta Brundidge
1.9of Cottage Grove was named the 2022 Minnesota Woman of the Year; and
1.10WHEREAS, Sheletta is a mother of four and the talented founder of the multimedia
1.11production company Sheletta Makes Me Laugh where Sheletta works to advance Black creators
1.12and amplify Black voices through her podcast network; and
1.13WHEREAS, Sheletta is also the coauthor of "Cameron Goes to School," the true story about
1.14her daughter, Cameron, starting school as a child with autism and "Daniel Finds His Voice," the
1.15true story of her son, Daniel, who was nonspeaking and found his voice through music; and
1.16WHEREAS, Sheletta is a tireless community organizer and activist. She has advocated for
1.17legislation to fund autism training for police officers across Minnesota, helped to create vaccine
1.18clinics in underserved communities, and recently partnered with First Alert to raise awareness about
1.19carbon monoxide poisoning and send out more than 100 free carbon monoxide detectors to those
1.20in need; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22commends Sheletta on the important contributions she has made to her community and congratulates
1.23her on being named the Minnesota Woman of the Year by USA Today.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Sheletta Brundidge.
