A bill for an act
relating to public safety; providing for special "MN supports family farmers"
license plates; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 168.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin Issuance and design. new text end

new text begin Notwithstanding section 168.1293, the
commissioner shall issue special plates showing support for family farmers to an applicant
who:

new text begin (1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle;

new text begin (2) pays a fee of $10 for each set of license plates applied for;
new text end

new text begin (3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013; and
new text end

new text begin (4) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles
and licensing of drivers.

new text begin Design. new text end

new text begin The commissioner, in consultation with organizations that
represent Minnesota farmers, shall design the special plate emblem.

new text begin Plates transfer. new text end

new text begin On payment of a transfer fee of $5, plates issued under
this section may be transferred to another passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle registered to the individual to whom the special
plates were issued.

new text begin The commissioner shall maintain a record of the number of
special plates issued under this section.

new text begin Fees credited. new text end

new text begin Fees collected under subdivision 1, clause (2), must be
credited to the vehicle services operating account in the special revenue fund.

new text begin This section is effective January 1, 2012.
