A bill for an act
relating to education; establishing a tiered teacher licensing system; providing for
rulemaking.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. TIERED TEACHER LICENSING SYSTEM; RULES.

The Minnesota Professional Educator Standards Board established in Minnesota Statutes,
section 122A.075, consistent with Minnesota Statutes, section 122A.09, subdivision 4,
paragraph (a), shall adopt rules to implement a tiered teacher licensing system substantially
similar to the tiered teacher licensing system recommended by the Office of the Legislative
Auditor in its 2016 "Minnesota Teacher Licensure" evaluation report in exhibit 4.4 on page
77. The board shall conform existing licensure rules to this section.

EFFECTIVE DATE.

This section is effective January 1, 2018.
