A bill for an act
relating to civil law; appropriating money for legal assistance grants.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin DAPA AND DACA ASSISTANCE GRANTS.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2016 is appropriated from the general fund to the Department of
Administration for one or more competitive grants to nonprofit organizations to provide
advice and assistance to individuals potentially affected by the federal Deferred Action for
Parental Accountability (DAPA) and the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) programs. Eligible organizations must be currently providing assistance on
immigration issues to low-income families as defined by the Legal Services Advisory
Committee (LSAC) in the Minnesota judiciary. The grants must be to provide advice and
legal assistance to complete immigration paperwork for the DAPA and DACA programs.
The Department of Administration should aim to award grants so that services can be
accessed throughout the state.
