A bill for an act
relating to the legislature; proposing an amendment to the Minnesota
Constitution, article IV, section 4; providing four-year terms of office for
representatives and six-year terms of office for senators.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to the people. If the
amendment is adopted, article IV, section 4, will read:

Representatives shall be chosen for a term of deleted text begin twodeleted text end new text begin fournew text end years, except to fill a
vacancydeleted text begin .deleted text end new text begin , andnew text end senators shall be chosen for a term of deleted text begin fourdeleted text end new text begin sixnew text end years, except to fill a vacancy
and exceptnew text begin as otherwise required by this section.new text end There shall be an entire new election
of all the senators new text begin and representatives new text end at the first new text begin general new text end election deleted text begin of representativesdeleted text end after
each new legislative apportionment provided for in this article. The governor shall call
elections to fill vacancies in either house of the legislature.

The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2012 general
election. The question submitted must be:
