A bill for an act
relating to public safety; creating an automatic inflationary increase for certain
peace officer training reimbursement appropriations; limiting the use of certain
law enforcement training reimbursement grants; appropriating money; amending
Laws 2019, First Special Session chapter 5, article 1, section 13, subdivision 4, as
amended.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Laws 2019, First Special Session chapter 5, article 1, section 13, subdivision
4, as amended by Laws 2020, Second Special Session chapter 1, section 26, is amended to
read:


Subd. 4.

Peace Officer Training Assistance

$6,000,000 each year is to support and
strengthen law enforcement training and
implement best practices.new text begin These funds may
only be used to reimburse costs related to
training courses that qualify for reimbursement
under Minnesota Statutes, sections 626.8469
(training in crisis response, conflict
management, and cultural diversity) and
626.8474 (autism training).

Sec. 2. new text beginPEACE OFFICER TRAINING REIMBURSEMENTS; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $2,949,000 in fiscal year 2022 and $3,022,000 in fiscal year 2023 are appropriated from
the general fund to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board for reimbursements to
local governments for peace officer training costs. This appropriation is added to the agency's
base and the commissioner of management and budget must adjust the appropriation each
year to reflect the projected consumer price index.
