A bill for an act
relating to public safety; requiring courts to use interactive video teleconference
or other remote technology when conducting most criminal proceedings; proposing
coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 630.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

(a) Unless the court determines that the interests of justice are not served by so doing,
the court shall continue to conduct criminal proceedings remotely through the use of
interactive video teleconference or other remote technology that permits the parties and
attorneys to appear without being in the courtroom or by review of the parties' submissions
without oral argument as provided in the chief justice's order governing the operations of
the Minnesota Judicial Branch under Emergency Executive Orders 20-53 and 20-56 filed
on May 15, 2020.
