relating to higher education; providing funding to the University of Minnesota
for mineral research; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MINERAL
RESEARCH.

new text begin $3,600,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2017 to the Board
of Regents of the University of Minnesota for academic and applied research through
MnDRIVE at the Natural Resources Research Institute to develop new technologies that
enhance the long-term viability of the Minnesota mining industry. The research must be
done in consultation with the Mineral Coordinating Committee established by Minnesota
Statutes, section 93.0015. The budget base for this program in fiscal years 2018 and
2019 is $3,600,000 per year.
