A bill for an act
relating to energy; appropriating money to repair and expand the generating capacity
of the Granite Falls hydroelectric generating facility.

new text begin Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, paragraph (j),
$2,750,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 2021 from the renewable development account
established under Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, to the commissioner
of commerce for a grant to the city of Granite Falls to purchase a new turbine to expand the
electric generating capacity of the city's existing hydroelectric generating facility. Of this
amount, $400,000 is to repair structural damage and erosion caused by flooding to the
building that houses the turbines that generate electricity. This is a onetime appropriation
and any amount unexpended by June 30, 2022, shall be returned to the renewable
development account. In the event that this project is funded through other legislation in
the 2020 legislative session, this appropriation is canceled.
