1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the life of Naikong Song Moua Vang.
1.3WHEREAS, Naikong Song Moua Vang was born June 12, 1947, in the Village of Looj
1.4Xawm, City of Pham Npoob, Houa Pang County, Province of SamNeu in Laos to Mr. Tong Xeng
1.5Vang and Mrs. Kia Xiong; and
1.6WHEREAS, Song Moua fought for and served the United States of America in the Vietnam
1.7War, also known as the Secret War in Laos, from 1964 to 1975. Song Moua served in the Special
1.8Guerilla Unit Battalion 228; and
1.9WHEREAS, in August of 1972, Song Moua successfully completed military training in
1.10Phisanulop, Thailand, earning him the rank of Naikong, given to him by General Vang Pao and
1.11Colonel Tou Lwj Moua; and
1.12WHEREAS, in 1974, in recognition of Song Moua's exemplary service and skills, he was
1.13given the opportunity to train in government leadership and later given the rank of First Lieutenant;
1.14and
1.15WHEREAS, four years after the war ended in 1975, Song Moua fled with his family to
1.16Thailand to escape Lao government persecution due to his role in aiding America during the Secret
1.17War; and
1.18WHEREAS, in 1994, Song Moua and his family arrived in the United States as refugees.
1.19They landed in Wisconsin, and then moved to Minnesota in 1998. Minnesota has been their home
1.20ever since; and
1.21WHEREAS, Naikong Song Moua Vang passed away on October 15, 2023, surrounded by
1.22his family; and
2.1WHEREAS, Song Moua will forever be remembered as a strong and courageous soldier
2.2and leader, and a loving family man who was a husband, a father to eight sons and seven daughters,
2.3a grandfather to 53 grandchildren, and a great-grandfather to 22 great-grandchildren; and
2.4NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.5honors the exemplary life and service of Naikong Song Moua Vang and extends its deepest
2.6sympathies to his family.
