1.1A Senate resolution
1.2designating the Honor and Remember Flag as Minnesota's emblem of service and
1.3sacrifice by those in the United States Armed Forces who have given their lives
1.4in the line of duty.
1.5WHEREAS, while war deaths have been a part of our heritage since the birth of this nation,
1.6the United States has not instituted an official symbol commemorating fallen servicepersons; and
1.7WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's red field represents the brave men and
1.8women who sacrificed their lives for freedom; and
1.9WHEREAS, the flag's blue star is a symbol of active service in military conflict that dates
1.10back to World War I; and
1.11WHEREAS, the flag's white border recognizes the purity of sacrifice; and
1.12WHEREAS, the flag's gold star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service
1.13who is not returning home and reflects the value of the life given; and
1.14WHEREAS, the folded flag element highlights this nation's final tribute to a fallen
1.15serviceperson and a family's sacrifice; and
1.16WHEREAS, the flag's flame symbolizes the eternal spirit of the departed; and
1.17WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag is a unifying symbol recognizing this nation's
1.18solemn debt to the estimated 1.6 million fallen servicepersons throughout United States history,
1.19and the families and communities who mourn their loss; NOW, THEREFORE,
2.1BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it recognizes the Honor
2.2and Remember Flag as Minnesota's emblem of service and sacrifice by the brave men and women
2.3of the United States Armed Forces who have given their lives in the line of duty.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
2.5copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the Chair of the Senate
2.6Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Commissioner of the Minnesota
2.7Department of Veterans Affairs.
