1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Xiuqi Cao of Century Senior High School for receiving a
1.3Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
1.4WHEREAS, Xiuqi Cao, a senior at Century Senior High School in Rochester, has achieved
1.5national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by being named a Distinguished Finalist
1.6in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and
1.7WHEREAS, this prestigious award is the nation's largest youth recognition program,
1.8based exclusively on volunteer service; and
1.9WHEREAS, Xiuqi helped to raise $60,000 in grant money to fund the creation of a
1.10science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) lab at his school through the "STEM Society,"
1.11a school club that offers fun, hands-on school projects; and
1.12WHEREAS, Xiuqi, who cofounded the club and is the current president, has helped to
1.13write dozens of workshop projects, coordinate two regional science fairs, and mentor students
1.14through the club; and
1.15WHEREAS, the success of the state of Minnesota, the strength of our communities, and
1.16the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young
1.17people like Xiuqi who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.19that it congratulates Xiuqi Cao of Century Senior High School on receiving a Prudential Spirit
1.20of Community Award, recognizes his outstanding record of volunteer service, and extends best
1.21wishes for his continued success and happiness.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Xiuqi Cao.
