1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the Franco-Hmong community. 1.3WHEREAS, the Hmong people were allies of France during the French Indochina War 1.4(1946-1954), and later with America during the Secret War in Laos (1962-1975); and 1.5WHEREAS, after America withdrew its support from Southeast Asia, the Hmong allies 1.6faced persecution from the Laotian government and began their diaspora in western countries like 1.7the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina, and France; and 1.8WHEREAS, France committed to sponsor the immigration of several hundred families to 1.9the country in 1976, and the population of Hmong-French is now at 25,000, including citizens of 1.10French Guiana; and 1.11WHEREAS, Hmong have been productive citizens of France and founded the Union des 1.12Associations Hmong de France to bring the community together for celebrations; and 1.13WHEREAS, today, the Hmong people of France celebrate the decades of progress since 1.14leaving their homeland, while remembering the hardship the Hmong people endured together 40 1.15years ago; and 1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 1.17honors the cultural ties and kinship between the Hmong in France and in the United States of 1.18America. 1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare 1.20an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that 1.21of the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the leaders 1.22of the Franco-Hmong community.
