1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the centennial of Rochester Community and Technical College.
1.3WHEREAS, the Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) is the oldest public
1.4two-year college in Minnesota, tracing its origins to a motion made by Dr. Charles Horace Mayo
1.5to the Rochester School Board in 1915, and is currently celebrating its centennial; and
1.6WHEREAS, today's RCTC was formed by the merger of Rochester Community College
1.7and Minnesota Riverland Technical College; and
1.8WHEREAS, RCTC began with 17 enrolled students and now offers degree options in
1.9Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, and Associate in Arts, as well as several
1.10certificate programs and over 300 online courses with an diverse student enrollment exceeding
1.1112,000 students; and
1.12WHEREAS, RCTC collaborates with high schools through the postsecondary enrollment
1.13options program, with four-year higher education institutions through the Minnesota transfer
1.14curriculum, and with business and industry through the provision of customized training solutions
1.15for workforce development; and
1.16WHEREAS, RCTC enriches its students and community with varsity sports including
1.17football, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, women's softball, wrestling, men's
1.18and women's golf, baseball, and women's soccer; and
1.19WHEREAS, RCTC further helps develop the lives of students beyond the traditional
1.20classroom through performing arts, student clubs and organizations, and both domestic and
1.21international service learning choices; and
1.22WHEREAS, since 2007, when Minnesota State Colleges and Universities began
1.23recognizing educators throughout the system for outstanding teaching, faculty at RCTC have been
1.24recognized twice as often as any other MNSCU institution; and
1.25NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.26it recognizes and commends Rochester Community and Technical College for its 100 years of
1.27dedicated service to Minnesota students, families, and communities in providing outstanding,
1.28affordable, and innovative educational opportunities and enrichment for the betterment of
1.29individuals and Minnesota.
1.30BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.31an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.32the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Office of the
1.33President of the Rochester Community and Technical College.
