1.2honoring Mike Schultz of St. Cloud on winning gold and silver medals at 1.3the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. 1.4WHEREAS, representing and competing for one's country in the Paralympics is one of the 1.5highest honors an athlete can achieve; and 1.6WHEREAS, Mike Schultz won a gold medal in snowboard-cross and a silver medal in 1.7banked slalom at the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, using prosthetic 1.8equipment he designed; and 1.9WHEREAS, Schultz bested the defending world champion in snowboard-cross while making 1.10his debut in the Paralympic Games; and 1.11WHEREAS, Schultz also had the honor of carrying the American flag before the 74 members 1.12of the U.S. Paralympic Team at the opening ceremony; and 1.13WHEREAS, Schultz recognized a need for high-impact adaptive-sports prosthetics when 1.14he founded BioDapt Inc. in 2010; and 1.15WHEREAS, more than 100 wounded soldiers, extreme athletes, and amputees use prosthetics 1.16designed by Schultz, including the entire U.S. Paralympic snowboard team in the LL-1 and LL-2 1.17classes; and 1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 1.19congratulates Mike Schultz on winning gold and silver medals, designing innovative adaptive-sports 1.20prosthetics, and representing Minnesota and our country while achieving these outstanding 1.21accomplishments. 1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the 1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Mike Schultz.
