1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the life and service of Chief Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr.
1.3WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr. was born in Madelia, Minnesota.
1.4He graduated from St. James High School and obtained his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State
1.5University; and
1.6WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard as a
1.7field artillery Automated Tactical Data System specialist, and was selected for Warrant Officer
1.8Candidate School, with follow-on instruction as a UH-60 Black Hawk pilot; and
1.9WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers dedicated ten years of exemplary service to the
1.10Minnesota National Guard; and
1.11WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers served with distinction on two deployments to
1.12the Middle East with the Minnesota National Guard, from May 2011 to May 2012 in Kuwait in
1.13support of Operation Enduring Freedom and from June 2018 to June 2019 in support of Operation
1.14Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve where his unit provided aerial medical evacuation; and
1.15WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers died tragically in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter
1.16crash nine minutes after takeoff from St. Cloud, Minnesota, on a routine maintenance flight; and
1.17WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers loved spending time with friends and family and
1.18could always be counted on for a practical joke, a great laugh, a friendly smile, or a kind word just
1.19when you needed it the most; and
1.20WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Rogers is survived by his parents James and Beth Rogers,
1.21sister Candis Folkens, brother-in-law Bryan Folkens, grandmother Patricia Hoffman, and 19 aunts
1.22and uncles; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2recognizes Chief Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr. for his dedicated service and ultimate
2.3sacrifice to our state and country.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Tuesday, February 11, 2020, is recognized as Chief
2.5Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr. Day.
2.6BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.7enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.8Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Chief
2.9Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr.
