1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commending Leticia Guadarrama for more than 30 years of dedicated service to the
1.3teaching profession.
1.4WHEREAS, a member of the teaching profession must believe in the ability of all students
1.5to learn, and a caring, enthusiastic, and skilled teacher is a major factor in establishing a good
1.6educational climate; and
1.7WHEREAS, a teacher must be a model of good deportment and moral character, for students
1.8learn by example; and
1.9WHEREAS, besides imparting knowledge, teachers are called upon to motivate their students
1.10to learn and to develop their communication and social skills; and
1.11WHEREAS, Leticia Guadarrama works for the Department of Global Education in the
1.12Minneapolis Public Schools system and is retiring this year after more than 30 years of outstanding
1.13service; and
1.14WHEREAS, Leticia holds a Masters of Education in Second Languages and Cultures from
1.15the University of Minnesota and has dedicated her professional life to education with a passion
1.16focused on helping youth succeed; and
1.17WHEREAS, Leticia has worked for more than 37 years with BIPOC youth and families in
1.18education, including 30 years in Minneapolis Public Schools, and is a fierce advocate for human
1.19rights and civil rights; and
1.20WHEREAS, in Leticia's position she supported equitable access to the district's new Global
1.21Education initiative and supported English learner students and families in accessing other enriched
1.22opportunities in Minneapolis Public Schools; and
1.23WHEREAS, some of the many contributions Leticia has made include her development of
1.24college readiness programming for language minority and at-risk students; development of
2.1partnerships with community and business organizations; recruiting, hiring, and supporting
2.2multilingual and bilingual teachers; and planning and leading staff development workshops; and
2.3WHEREAS, Leticia serves on the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs, Edina's Human
2.4Rights & Relations Commission, and the Minnesota Advisory Committee to the United States
2.5Commission on Civil Rights, and is also a member of various diversity and equity committees; and
2.6WHEREAS, Leticia has presented nationally for several professional education organizations
2.7and also has served as a Grant Review Panelist of the National Science Foundation; and
2.8NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.9commends Leticia Guadarrama for her many years of dedication and commitment to education.
2.10BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
2.11copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the
2.12Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Leticia Guadarrama.
