1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce on its 150th anniversary.
1.3WHEREAS, the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1866 as the
1.4Rochester Board of Trade by businessmen seeking to attract more settlers to the area and protect
1.5the rights of wheat farmers; and
1.6WHEREAS, the organization changed its name to the Rochester Commercial Club in
1.71900, and became known as The Civic and Commercial Association in 1921; and
1.8WHEREAS, the association first affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce of the United
1.9States in November 1929 and became Rochester Chamber of Commerce in 1931; and
1.10WHEREAS, Rochester Chamber of Commerce met the challenges of a growing
1.11community during the Great Depression and continued to expand its services through the middle
1.12of the 20th century, changing its name to the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce in 1968 to
1.13reflect its broader effect and influence; and
1.14WHEREAS, today the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce promotes vibrant
1.15communities and a prosperous economy through networking, marketing, advocacy, and education
1.16opportunities and by representing local businesses on issues of economic and governmental
1.17policy; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.19it commends the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce on its sustained commitment to lead,
1.20inform, advocate, and advance Rochester Area business interests and recognizes the occasion of
1.21its 150th anniversary.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
2.2an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
2.3the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Rochester
2.4Area Chamber of Commerce.
