1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the lives and work of deceased Senators 1.11WHEREAS, those in public office need an uncommon dedication to meet the demands upon 1.12their time, resources, and talents; and 1.13WHEREAS, in the history of the Minnesota Senate, there have been countless Senators who 1.14have left a heritage of noble deeds, thoughts, and acts; and 1.15WHEREAS, in their endeavors to legislate for the public good of this state, they strove to 1.16represent fairly the rights of the people; and 1.17WHEREAS, their spirits continually challenge, enlighten, and encourage those who remain 1.18to honestly and diligently exercise the work of the government for the public good; and 1.19WHEREAS, Senators of today take courage and inspiration from those noble servants of 1.20another time who believed it was better to serve than to be served; and 1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it 1.22recognizes the tremendous contributions of the following deceased Senators: the Honorable James 1.23Metzen, 1987-2016, the Honorable Wendell Anderson, 1963-1970, the Honorable Harold Kalina, 1.241955-1972, the Honorable Jerome Gunderson, 1977-1980, the Honorable Tony Perpich, 1967-1976, 1.25the Honorable Robert Dunn, 1973-1980, the Honorable Carl Kroening, 1981-1996, the Honorable 1.26Gerald Willet, 1971-1987, the Honorable Clarence Purfeerst, 1971-1990, the Honorable Fred Kelton 1.27Gage, Jr., 1967-1972, the Honorable George Conzemius, 1967-1976, the Honorable Don Moe, 1.281981-1990, the Honorable Emily Anne Staples Tuttle, 1977-1980, the Honorable Lyle Mehrkens, 1.291983-1992, the Honorable Earl Gustafson, 1971-1972. Their dedication to the public good is a 1.30source of inspiration to, and is worthy of emulation by, their present-day colleagues. 1.31BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an 1.32enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the 1.33Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to appropriate relatives 1.34of those commemorated by this resolution.
