1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing September 7, 2015, as Hmong Minnesota Day at the Minnesota State Fair.
1.3WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Fair has operated for 156 years as a festive gathering
1.4where Minnesotans showcase competition, agriculture, food, merchandise, rides, and industry; and
1.5WHEREAS, 2015 marks the 40th anniversary since the first Hmong came to Minnesota as
1.6refugees from Southeast Asia; and
1.7WHEREAS, Minnesota is now home to an estimated 75,000 Hmong Americans who have
1.8assimilated in all walks of life; and
1.9WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Fair Organization has partnered with the Hmong
1.10Minnesota community to celebrate the rich culture, stories, and heritage of Hmong Americans; and
1.11WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Fair has designated Monday, September 7, 2015, as
1.12Hmong Minnesota Day at the Minnesota State Fair; and
1.13NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.14recognizes September 7, 2015, as Hmong Minnesota Day at the Minnesota State Fair.
1.15BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.16enrolled copies of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.17Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit them to the State Fair's
1.18board of managers and Minnesota's Hmong American community.
