1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center on its 50th
1.3anniversary.
1.4WHEREAS, our state is enhanced by the presence of organizations that have withstood the
1.5test of time, and 50 years is an ideal occasion to celebrate an organization's rich history; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center was founded in 1970 by Red
1.7Wing community members, including local conservationist Marge Vogel, outdoor education
1.8instructor Bruce Ause, Red Wing School District superintendent Dan Mjolsness, and Red Wing
1.9Shoe Company president Bill Sweasy, who recognized the many natural resources that Red Wing
1.10has to offer; and
1.11WHEREAS, as one of the oldest year-round outdoor education centers in the state, the
1.12Environmental Learning Center strives to instill an awareness and appreciation for our local
1.13environment and to be a catalyst for environmental appreciation in the Red Wing community, a
1.14mission it achieves by offering programming for students from ages 8 to 18; and
1.15WHEREAS, students who participate in programming through the Environmental Learning
1.16Center can learn a range of skills through courses offered, including a variety of core programs to
1.17teach the basics of backpacking, camping, skiing, and climbing, and a number of elective programs
1.18that include outdoor photography, carp shooting, maple tapping, and spelunking; and
1.19WHEREAS, through their participation at the Environmental Learning Center, students
1.20develop positive lifelong skills such as leadership, confidence, strong work ethic, collaborative
1.21problem-solving, appreciation of our natural world, and a positive attitude as they work through
1.22increasingly challenging experiences; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24congratulates the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center on its 50th anniversary and extends
1.25warm wishes for its future success.
1.26BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.27enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.28Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Red Wing
1.29Environmental Learning Center.
