1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating LaRae Ellingson for being named and promoted to l'Ordre des Palmes
1.3académiques.
1.4WHEREAS, LaRae Ellingson is a French teacher at Rosemount High School; and
1.5WHEREAS, l'Ordre des Palmes académiques recognizes those who have rendered eminent
1.6service to French education and have contributed actively to the prestige of French culture; and
1.7WHEREAS, for those who are named and promoted to l'Ordre des Palmes académiques,
1.8this distinction acknowledges their merits, talents, and exemplary activities; and
1.9WHEREAS, in 1808 Napoleon I created the Palmes académiques to honor and recognize
1.10eminent members of the University. The Palmes académiques became a decoration in 1866
1.11under Napoleon III, at which time the honor was also extended to nonteaching persons who had
1.12rendered illustrious service to French education and culture; and
1.13WHEREAS, the Palmes académiques is the oldest nonmilitary French decoration; and
1.14NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.15recognizes LaRae Ellingson for being named and promoted to l'Ordre des Palmes académiques.
1.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.17enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.18Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to LaRae Ellingson.
