1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Catherine Landrum for being named a National Merit Scholarship
1.3Program Commended Student.
1.4WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for
1.5recognition and scholarships that began in 1955; and
1.6WHEREAS, high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by
1.7taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an
1.8initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year; in late September, about 34,000
1.9of the approximately 50,000 high scorers received Letters of Commendation in recognition of
1.10outstanding academic promise; and
1.11WHEREAS, Catherine Landrum, a student at Bloomington Jefferson High School,
1.12was recently notified of National Merit Commended status, a noteworthy honor deserving of
1.13legislative recognition; and
1.14NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.15congratulates Catherine Landrum on being named a National Merit Commended Student.
1.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.17enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.18Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Catherine Landrum.
