1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Rockvam Boat Yards of Spring Park for winning the 2017 Marina
1.3of the Year Award.
1.4WHEREAS, each year, Marina Dock Age Magazine honors one large marina with more
1.5than 250 slips and one small marina with the Marina of the Year award. Facilities from across the
1.6country complete detailed applications, competing in many different categories: business operations,
1.7renovations, advertising and marketing, community and industry involvement, and special challenges;
1.8and
1.9WHEREAS, in 1961, Jerry and Joyce Rockvam started a small facility on Lake Minnetonka
1.10in Minnesota and 57 years later the marina is still going strong, adapting every year to the changing
1.11market and business; and
1.12WHEREAS, even with 50 wet slips, 120 dry storage spaces, a boat club, pontoon and fishing
1.13boat rentals, and a winter storage business to keep the marina busy year-round, the service business
1.14is still the boat yard's core function; and
1.15WHEREAS, in 2012, Rockvam Boat Yards helped create the Minnesota Clean Marina
1.16program as one its inaugural members and an integral part of developing the guidelines; and
1.17WHEREAS, the marina has never stopped adapting and looking for new ways to serve
1.18customers on the lake and attract locals and new visitors to boating; and
1.19WHEREAS, with creative and persistent marketing, strong leadership, and talented and
1.20well-trained employees, Rockvam Boat Yards excels at customer satisfaction and creating a special
1.21experience at its waterfront; and
1.22WHEREAS, for its accomplishments, Rockvam Boat Yards became the first marina in
1.23Minnesota to win the Marina of the Year Award in 2017; and
1.24WHEREAS, they were honored on December 6, 2017, at the Docks Expo at Music City
1.25Center in Nashville and recognized by the Spring Park Mayor and City Council at their meeting
1.26on January 2, 2018; and
1.27NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.28congratulates Rockvam Boat Yards of Spring Park for winning the 2017 Marina of the Year Award.
1.29BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.30enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.31Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Rockvam Boat Yards.
