1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating St. Cloud State University men's basketball coach Kevin Schlagel
1.3on his retirement.
1.4WHEREAS, Kevin Schlagel has been involved with the St. Cloud State University
1.5Huskies basketball program since 1972, first as a player, then 13 years as an assistant coach and
1.617 years as head coach; and
1.7WHEREAS, Coach Schlagel shows respect to his players and he receives it back; he sets
1.8a great example for everyone with whom he has worked; and
1.9WHEREAS, his former players say Coach Schlagel is honest, hardworking, a lifelong
1.10friend, organized, consistent, a communicator to players as well as to the community, predictable,
1.11and a believer in timeliness; and
1.12WHEREAS, Coach Schlagel's impact extends beyond the number of wins to the number of
1.13young men and women whose lives he has touched and influenced by his positive manner; and
1.14WHEREAS, Coach Schlagel built a program on strong core qualities: respect, honesty,
1.15and hard work, which are the same qualities that make him the type of person he is; and
1.16WHEREAS, he challenges his players to give 110 percent on the court and in the
1.17classroom, and he is willing to help them achieve it; and
1.18WHEREAS, he has been a big influence on everyone who played and coached basketball
1.19at St. Cloud State, and has made his parents proud; and
1.20WHEREAS, he teaches young men not only to play basketball but how to work, compete,
1.21and integrate into a system much different from where they came, and these valuable lessons will
1.22turn into success as they enter the next journey of their life; and
2.1WHEREAS, this year, after a long and successful career at St. Cloud State as a coach,
2.2teacher, counselor, psychologist, sounding board, and parent, Coach Schlagel has decided to
2.3retire; and
2.4NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
2.5that it congratulates St. Cloud State University men's basketball coach Kevin Schlagel on his
2.6retirement, and wishes him well in his future plans.
2.7BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.8enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.9Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Kevin Schlagel.
