1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the memory of Minnesota National Guard Chief Warrant Officer
1.3Charles P. Nord.
1.4WHEREAS, those who risk their lives and give selflessly of their time and energy to defend
1.5our nation's precious freedoms in the armed forces perform an important service deserving of special
1.6legislative recognition; and
1.7WHEREAS, Minnesota National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Charles P. Nord was proud
1.8of two things: his family and flying helicopters for the National Guard; and
1.9WHEREAS, Charles grew up in Perham and graduated from Perham High School in 2007,
1.10where he was on the state championship cross-country team; and
1.11WHEREAS, at age 30, Charles was one of three National Guard members tragically killed
1.12when a helicopter crashed near St. Cloud on December 5, 2019, on a maintenance test flight; and
1.13WHEREAS, he had been back in Minnesota after returning from a nine-month deployment
1.14to Kuwait providing aerial medical evacuation flights and had recently started flying a crop-spraying
1.15helicopter, something he told family and friends was a dream job; and
1.16WHEREAS, his funeral was held on December 16, 2019, at Perham High School, to
1.17accommodate a large crowd. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was in attendance as well as Charles's
1.18National Guard unit Company C, 2-211 General Support Aviation Battalion - Northstar Dustoff,
1.19local servicemen and women, his family and friends, and members of the community; and
1.20WHEREAS, the flag that he loved and served under, the one that had been draped over his
1.21casket, was folded and presented to his wife, Kaley Nord, of Perham. With her was the couple's
1.22two-year-old daughter, Lydia, and their expected son, Jack Charles; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24honors the memory of Minnesota National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Charles P. Nord and
1.25commends his generous service to this country. It extends sincere condolences to his family and
1.26to all who knew him.
1.27BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.28enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.29Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of Minnesota
1.30National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Charles P. Nord.
