1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Kirsten Klaver for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.3WHEREAS, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, helping girls
1.4to reach their full potential, develop positive values, and contribute to the improvement of society
1.5through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others; and
1.6WHEREAS, to earn the highest award given by the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the Gold
1.7Award, a Girl Scout in high school must complete leadership journeys that help her discover her
1.8interests, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. She must then
1.9complete a comprehensive and sustainable take action project that uses her talent and passion to
1.10positively impact her community; and
1.11WHEREAS, Kirsten's project was "Green²: Going Green Saves Green - Implementing a
1.12Campus-Wide Recycling Program at the Church of St. Peter and St. Peter Catholic School," in
1.13which Kirsten and several other Girl Scouts obtained recycling bins for the church and school,
1.14raised awareness of recycling in the community, and taught the parishioners, staff, and students
1.15how to recycle; and
1.16WHEREAS, Kirsten is a serving and responsible member of Troop 52080 and has
1.17completed all requirements necessary to earn the Gold Award; and
1.18WHEREAS, she will receive the Gold Award at a Recognition Ceremony on Sunday,
1.19June 12, 2011; and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21congratulates Kirsten Klaver for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award.
1.22BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.23enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.24Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Kirsten Klaver.
