1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the Abel family farm for being recognized by the University of
1.3Minnesota as a "2013 Farm Family."
1.4WHEREAS, family farms are the foundation of Minnesota agriculture, and the farm family
1.5work ethic is the major contributor to the success of Minnesota communities and Minnesota
1.6agriculture; and
1.7WHEREAS, the University of Minnesota annually selects one family from each of the
1.8participating counties in the state as Farm Family of the Year based on their contributions to the
1.9agricultural industry, their communities, and their state; and
1.10WHEREAS, the Abel family farm in Buffalo, Minnesota, was homesteaded in 1955, and
1.11is a sixth generation farm of dairy and crop farming; Randy and Barbara Abel and their three
1.12sons, Neil, Nicholas, and Derek, in various capacities, have helped to make the Abel family
1.13farm a thriving success; and
1.14WHEREAS, Randy is involved in Wright County DHIA, Munson Lake Nutrition,
1.15Centrasota Lake Region LLC, and Lake Region Co-op; he is also a Cenex delegate to the annual
1.16meeting each year, and the Abel family belongs to St. Francis Catholic Church; and
1.17WHEREAS, on Thursday, August 8, 2013, the family of Randy and Barbara Abel from
1.18Buffalo will be recognized by the University of Minnesota as a "2013 Farm Family" at the annual
1.19Farmfest event at the Gilfillan Estate, near Redwood Falls, a tremendous honor deserving of
1.20special legislative recognition; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.22that it congratulates the Abel family farm for being recognized by the University of Minnesota
1.23as a "2013 Farm Family."
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair
1.26of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Randy and Barbara Abel.
