1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring former Senator Nancy Brataas, first female Republican Senator
1.3in the Minnesota Senate.
1.4WHEREAS, those who blaze trails for others to follow are deserving of special legislative
1.5recognition; and
1.6WHEREAS, Nancy Brataas was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1975 and served for
1.717 years; she was the second woman ever elected to the Minnesota Senate, and the first ever
1.8to be elected in her own right; and
1.9WHEREAS, among other things, former Senator Brataas gets credit for laying the
1.10groundwork to get a University of Minnesota campus in Rochester; and
1.11WHEREAS, she has served as a political campaign consultant, as a Minnesota State
1.12Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) Board Member, and on the Minnesota Community College
1.13System Board; she also served as a Board Member for ClearWay Minnesota; and
1.14WHEREAS, Nancy Brataas has had a long career of representing the needs of her
1.15community as well as the needs of all citizens of Minnesota, and an award given by MnSCU
1.16has been named in her honor; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18thanks and commends former Senator Nancy Brataas for her service to the citizens of Minnesota,
1.19and extends best wishes to her for the future.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.21an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.22the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to former Senator
1.23Nancy Brataas.
