1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week.
1.3WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease of the central nervous system
1.4affecting nearly one million people in the United States alone; and
1.5WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis generally strikes people in the prime of life, between the
1.6ages of 20 and 50, and the cause and course of the often debilitating symptoms of MS remain
1.7unknown and no cure currently exists; and
1.8WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is committed to a world free of MS
1.9and heightening public knowledge about and insight into the disease; and
1.10WHEREAS, together we have transformed what it means to live with MS and provided
1.11global leadership to help achieve our vision of a world free of MS; and
1.12WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving force
1.13of MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure, and has invested more
1.14than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and
1.15WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society fuel research on
1.16pathways to MS cures and invest in the MS research workforce at the best medical centers,
1.17universities, and other institutions throughout the United States and abroad, leading to many
1.18breakthroughs in the treatment of MS; and
1.19WHEREAS, curing MS while empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives is
1.20the mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and one that all Americans and Minnesota
1.21residents should support; and
1.22WHEREAS, Minnesota recognizes the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS and
1.23expresses its appreciation for the dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Upper
1.24Midwest Chapter has shown toward creating a world free of MS; and
1.25NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.26recognizes March 10-16, 2024, as MS Awareness Week.
