1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Monica Loch of Maple Lake on her 100th birthday.
1.3WHEREAS, our communities are blessed by the presence of those who have lived long lives
1.4and who are part of our living history, and having a 100th birthday is a joyous occasion and a time
1.5to honor and congratulate the celebrant; and
1.6WHEREAS, they say with age comes wisdom and Monica Loch has plenty of both; and
1.7WHEREAS, one of Monica's favorite pieces of advice comes straight from the Bible: "Love
1.8your neighbor as yourself and put God first and He will take care of you"; and
1.9WHEREAS, as a devout member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Monica has tried her
1.10entire life to heed those words; and
1.11WHEREAS, Monica was born in Maple Lake on April 5, 1921, to Bernard and Cecelia Jude.
1.12At the time, her father ran the family business, R. H. Jude and Sons' Store, and later started Jude
1.13Candy and Tobacco in 1935; and
1.14WHEREAS, during World War II, Monica enrolled in nursing school at St. Mary's in
1.15Minneapolis. After a few years working in the Twin Cities and a stint working at a tuberculosis
1.16hospital in Walker, she returned home, where she reunited with an old friend of her brother's, Julius
1.17(Jule) Loch; and
1.18WHEREAS, Jule had tuberculosis as a child, but was free of the disease by the time they
1.19married in 1945. They decided to open a jewelry store in Maple Lake in 1947, and had to sell their
1.20car to buy the building for the store; and
1.21WHEREAS, Jule died in 1971, and Monica kept the jewelry store thriving until 1977, when
1.22her sons joined the business and moved it to Monticello, where it is today; and
1.23WHEREAS, Monica, who retired in 1985, loved working in the business and also loved
1.24being a homekeeper, wife, and mother; and
1.25WHEREAS, Monica and Jule had 11 children, and today Monica has 57 grandchildren, 113
1.26great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and
1.27NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.28congratulates Monica Loch of Maple Lake on her 100th birthday.
1.29BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.30enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.31Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Monica Loch.
