1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Brainerd High School football coach Ron Stolski on his retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, from the time Ron Stolski was 13, when he was the head coach of his
1.4ten-year-old brother's football team at Bohanon Park in Minneapolis, leading them to the city
1.5championship, he never wanted to be anything but a football coach; and
1.6WHEREAS, Ron grew up in Minneapolis and went to high school at Patrick Henry High
1.7School. After college at Macalester, he began his high school coaching career at Kensington High
1.8School in 1962; and
1.9WHEREAS, he also coached at Slayton, Princeton, and Park Center before taking the Brainerd
1.10job in 1975; and
1.11WHEREAS, he led his teams to ten state tournament appearances, including Class 5A
1.12runner-up in 2013; and
1.13WHEREAS, he also had a role in creating the current Prep Bowl playoffs; and
1.14WHEREAS, in 2020, at the age of 80, Ron, the longest tenured football coach in Minnesota
1.15history, retired from his post after 58 seasons as a head coach, the last 45 at Brainerd; and
1.16WHEREAS, he concluded his long career with 389 victories, second in Minnesota high
1.17school football coaching history; and
1.18WHEREAS, he has won many local, state, and national awards and is in a significant number
1.19of Halls of Fame for high school football coaching; and
1.20WHEREAS, most importantly, he has positively impacted and made a huge difference in
1.21many young people's lives through his coaching and advocating for children, and he will remain
1.22executive director of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association; and
1.23WHEREAS, a celebration and recognition event for Ron is planned for October 9, 2021;
1.24and
1.25NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.26congratulates Brainerd High School football coach Ron Stolski on his outstanding career and extends
1.27best wishes to him in his retirement.
1.28BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.29enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.30Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Ron Stolski.
