1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Les Fujitake on his retirement from the Bloomington School District.
1.3WHEREAS, Les Fujitake has worked for the Bloomington School District for more than
1.425 years. He was the executive director of finance and support services from 1995 to 2006, and has
1.5served as Bloomington Public Schools Superintendent since 2006; and
1.6WHEREAS, while serving as superintendent, Les led a public campaign to pass the state's
1.7largest school capital building bond referendum and subsequent referendums in 2007, 2013, and
1.82017; and
1.9WHEREAS, Les helped develop a facility master plan and technology plan and led a cost
1.10containment program that reduced general fund expenses by $10 million over a four-year period;
1.11and
1.12WHEREAS, during his tenure, Les converted the district from a contracted bus service to
1.13a district-owned service that improved efficiency and reduced expenses; and
1.14WHEREAS, Les led innovative approaches to academic research that developed personal
1.15growth plans for every student and matched student skills and goals to their choices for higher
1.16education, trades, or skilled certifications; and
1.17WHEREAS, after many years of service to the Bloomington School District, Les Fujitake
1.18will retire in June 2021; and
1.19NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.20commends Les Fujitake for his many years of dedication and commitment.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
1.22copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the
1.23Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Les Fujitake.
