1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Shauna Miller as the 2021 Athena Award recipient.
1.3WHEREAS, athletic and academic accomplishments are worthy of legislative recognition;
1.4and
1.5WHEREAS, the Athena Award is annually awarded to outstanding female high school
1.6student-athletes in recognition of their achievements in academics and athletics; and
1.7WHEREAS, Shauna Miller is a senior at Park High School where she was named captain
1.8of the soccer, hockey, and lacrosse teams; and
1.9WHEREAS, in soccer, Shauna was a two-year letter winner and earned All-Conference
1.10Honorable Mention honors her senior year as the team's goalkeeper; and
1.11WHEREAS, in hockey, Shauna earned five letters and was named All-Conference as a
1.12senior; and
1.13WHEREAS, in lacrosse, Shauna will end her senior year as a three-year letter winner, was
1.14a starter for her team, and scored the sixth most goals on the team while a sophomore; and
1.15WHEREAS, Shauna is an excellent student and is involved in Link Crew, Leaders of the
1.16Pack, Pack of Friends, and Empower Leadership Academy at Park High School. She volunteers
1.17with youth sports camps and clinics, Special Olympics, Feed My Starving Children, and Dorothy
1.18Day Outreach; and
1.19WHEREAS, Shauna received her award at the 27th Annual St. Paul Area Athena Award
1.20luncheon on April 21, 2021, at Vadnais Heights Commons; and
1.21WHEREAS, Shauna will attend and play hockey for Saint Benedict's University; and
2.1NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.2congratulates Shauna Miller on receiving the 2021 Athena Award and extends best wishes to her
2.3for the future.
2.4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.5enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.6Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Shauna Miller.
