1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Secretary of the Senate Cal R. Ludeman on his retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, Cal Ludeman was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1978
1.4in a wave of Republican victories that was referred to as the "Minnesota Massacre"; and
1.5WHEREAS, Cal served three terms in the House before running for governor in 1986 as
1.6the Independent Republican Party candidate, which is what the Republican Party was called then
1.7in Minnesota; and
1.8WHEREAS, Cal was appointed commissioner of employee relations by Governor Tim
1.9Pawlenty in 2003 and commissioner of human services in 2007; and
1.10WHEREAS, Cal then served as Secretary of the Senate from 2011 to 2012 and again from
1.112017 to 2022; and
1.12WHEREAS, Cal will be missed by the nonpartisan staff of the Senate for his wisdom,
1.13kindness, sense of humor, and all of his amazing stories; and
1.14WHEREAS, Cal looks forward to spending more time on Lake Shetek with his wife, Deb,
1.15and the rest of his family in his retirement. He plans to spend more time on his hobbies, which
1.16include traveling, collecting and polishing rocks, visiting family in North Carolina, and spending
1.17time with his wonderful grandchildren; and
1.18NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.19thanks Cal Ludeman for his many years of outstanding service as Secretary of the Senate and
1.20extends best wishes to him in his retirement.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.23Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Cal R. Ludeman.
