1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the sesquicentennial of Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, our state is enhanced by cities and counties that have withstood the passage of
1.4time to serve as our own living history and a 150th anniversary is cause for celebration; and
1.5WHEREAS, on March 6, 1871, the Minnesota Legislature passed a bill establishing Lac qui
1.6Parle County; and
1.7WHEREAS, known to the indigenous Dakota people as The Lake that Speaks, Lac qui Parle
1.8County has a vibrant history that spans generations. The county was home to French missionaries
1.9before being established by Joseph Renville as a fur-trading post in 1826. After Renville's death,
1.10the area was settled by new Americans who relied on the fertile soil to grow crops; and
1.11WHEREAS, now serving as a popular destination for visitors, Lac qui Parle County offers
1.12hiking and skiing in beautiful parks, canoeing and kayaking the waters, and hunting ducks and
1.13geese during their annual migration south; and
1.14WHEREAS, Lac qui Parle County is home to both generational and new families who enjoy
1.15high quality education options for their children, a strong farming economy, and a deep sense of
1.16community with their neighbors; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18commemorates the sesquicentennial of Lac qui Parle County and extends its warm wishes for a
1.19year of celebration which will commence on March 6, 2021, in Madison, Minnesota.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.21enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.22Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Lac qui Parle County.
