1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the dedication of the Highway 60 bridge spanning the
1.3Mississippi River in Wabasha in honor of Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner.
1.4WHEREAS, Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner was a casualty of the Vietnam War on
1.5April 11, 1970, at the age of 21, and he is believed to be the only casualty of the Vietnam War
1.6from Wabasha; and
1.7WHEREAS, Sergeant Clickner was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star,
1.8Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and two Vietnam Medals; he is honored at the
1.9Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
1.10WHEREAS, for years, many community members worked to honor Sergeant Clickner's
1.11sacrifice and bravery through a memorial bridge, and the City of Wabasha recently passed a
1.12resolution supporting the effort; a provision in the 2014 transportation policy bill provides for
1.13the Highway 60 bridge spanning the Mississippi River in Wabasha to be renamed the "Michael
1.14Duane Clickner Memorial Bridge"; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16recognizes the dedication of the Highway 60 bridge spanning the Mississippi River in Wabasha in
1.17honor of Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.19an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.20the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of
1.21Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner.
